One of my diabetic prosthetic patients became a bilateral transtibial amputee
recently and asked me if I thought he still would qualify for shoes from Medicare?
The patient has been getting shoes for the past few years and until recently
qualified. I told him I didn't know the answer to that question, but I would try to
find out.
I asked a certified pedorthist friend who told me it could be a problem since
Medicare requires him to obtain medical notes reflecting a foot exam and also
stating that the patient would benefit from diabetic shoes.
Now that he's missing both his feet, does the law still apply to him?
Thank you all for your responses,
