We have just received in the mail a letter from Anthem Blue Cross Blue
Shield stating that from a date of service of 2 years ago informing we
need to refund them thousands of dollars because as of the date of
service the patient did not have active insurance. At the time of
service (2 years ago) we did an insurance verification and
authorization, and the provider relations representative gave us the
patients benefits and did not say anything about the insurance being
inactive. Also when we did an authorization this was approved and non
-active status was not given to us also. We billed and got paid for the
services rendered. But now 2+ years later they are saying we need to
refund them because patient did not have active insurance on the date in
question.
What can we do in this situation, as this was not at our fault? Please
any suggestions will help.
Thank you
