Hello List,
I had a walk-in client the other day who has quadriceps muscle and nerve
damage. He has weakness in knee extension and hip flexion, and his quads
are full of scar tissue and therefore shortened and tight, so that with the
normal hip extension required for gait he feels it pulling. If he walks for
greater than 15 minutes he suffers with pain, thigh spasms, and swelling.
He can not kneel because his muscles are too tight. His sensation on the
thigh is patchy. He falls quite often. He says his knee gives out on him
randomly.
He is 48 years old and weighs 190lbs. He came to see what I could offer
him in the way of increasing his confidence in his knee, decrease his
reliance on a cane, and decrease his chances of falling. While I do have
some ideas in mind, I am looking for some additional options/suggestions.
Thank you,
Karen Boehm COC
