Dear List,
I would like to ask for suggestions of socket design for a 10 year old
congenital left transtibial and right transradial amputee. His residual
limb is very long and thin (10 long, at MPT level = 7 3/4, distally = 5
1/4 in circumference). For the last few years we have been fitting him
with Ohio Willow P-POD 3 mm liners (Extra small plus cushion), a modified
KISS suspension (without distal attachment). He never could tolerate a
locking liner because of distal discomfort. He is a very active child,
plays soccer. He had a few t/radial prostheses, including a myo, but
chooses not to wear them. I would like to change the design of the t/tibial
socket. The existing system works, but there is still inherent pistoning
and some rotational instability. I was thinking of a cushion liner with a
sleeve, but there are 2 issues that make this system inferior: durability
of sleeves (a kid of his activity level will go through a sleeve in a week)
and the probable difficulty of donning the suspension sleeve with one hand
and the residual limb of the opposite upper extremity. I would really love
to have a Seal-in liner available for a stump of his size! Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Stephan
