Hi List!
I have a new pedi patient who has an ankle disartic on the left and transtibial amp on the right (upper extremity involvement too) secondary to meningitis. He is 87 lbs and started running track. He's a sprinter. Right now his prostheses have what looks like Freedom Innovation Hylander or Flex-walk feet bilaterally. He's looking for better running prostheses. He has a 5 5/8 discrepancy between the two sides, so with the current foot build height and shoe on the ankle-disartic side I could get a running foot on the right. I was thinking of a Pedi Flex Run or possibly Catapult foot.
Soooo....questions: 1) is there a better choice for the transtibial side for sprinting, and is there a better foot for the ankle disartic side for sprinting that would work with height restrictions. (Relative restrictions since he's bilateral...don't want to make him TOO tall!) Also, would the running foot on the one side be likely to throw him off balance? (I thought it might initially, but that he would get used to it, yes?)
Thank you for your time and excellent opinions!
Karen Lynch, CPO
