Hello all,
A patient was fit two weeks post with a Toe-Off AFO for drop foot. The orthosis was modified to patient per manufacturer recommendation. He did well in clinic, signed delivery ticket and left the clinic. He was informed to contact if any unexpected problems should arise. Today he presents with the orthosis in hand (always a troubling site) saying he could not tolerate the orthosis due to circumferential pressure on his vericous veins. Following the fitting, of course, we billed Medicare for the orthosis. Upon payment by Medicare, are we obligated to reimburse that payment? We obviously cannot return this orthosis nor can we use on any other patients.
