What AK slip socket material do you prefer? I am curious what others
are using and why. I've used Proflex w/o silicone for years and have
good results, but I'm always looking for something better. I am biased
against polyethylene due to shrinkage and cracking. And am not a fan of
Proflex with silicone due to difficulty keeping volumetric foam liners
glued in, as well as a tendency to crack and tear over time.
--I used seaflex 100 & 200 for years…can get it through endplate only.
Started having problems with it so I asked the same question you are
about a year and a half ago and most commented material was Orfit from
Orfitrans. Cascade carries it as far as distributors are concerned. I
have been pleased with it as far as ease of fabrication and no shrinkage
issues. Not as soft as Seaflex but manipulating the pull you can get it
thinner where needed to allow greater flexibility.
--Northvane is stable
--I like Thurmilyn from Otto Bock, it hardly extrudes and comes in
different durometers. Easy to mold and finish.
--We have tried most of what's out there. Duraflex from Guard
Industries, OP Flex from O and P Enterprises, and Masterflex from Euro
Int'l, are excellent products at reasonable prices. Endolite's plastics
are also excellent. The Proflex S tends to separate if seamed, and
expand if used as a wet fit.
--try surlyn
--Northvane great material but expensive.
--We have been using Orfitrans x-soft and supra-soft successfully for
the lest
couple years as well as some Northvane.
--Northvane works well for me. You may want to have Endolite or your
local plastics supplier send you some samples.
-- We've used just about all the available flexible insert materials
over the past 17
years and recently found that the Streififlex or Masterflex Suprasoft
from
Euro International was quite a good product. We typically have used
the
Otto Bock Super Flexible Thermolyn as a standard application. Seaflex
from
North Sea Plastics is pretty good as is Orfit-trans.
Every one of these plastics has its own characteristics requiring not
only
different working temperatures, but also different pulling-drawing
techniques.
