This is my first time on the list serve and I have not been keeping up on
the posts. I apologize if this has been asked already but I am curious
about what I have been hearing about overpayment requests.
I understand that O&P companies are being asked for money back for billed
cases at an alarming frequency. What concerns me is that many examples I
have been given seem to be based on trivial, related to small print
regulations, border line, and/or inappropriate issues. Some have gone as
far as telling me that this is a flat out effort to force facilities to
close down.
In one case, it was explained to me that Medicare has two sides working
inconsistently with the suppliers. The side that answers questions may tell
facilities to conduct their business a certain way regardless of if the rule
book agrees. The billing side proceeds to capture every opportunity,
regardless of the advice received from Medicare, to ask for the money back.
The person reporting to me seemed to feel that Medicare's purpose is to set
companies up for failure by asking for large sums of money back, too large
to pay back, forcing shut downs.
Does anyone out there have any real-world experience with this?
Thank you,
