I have an individual that I fit with his 1st BK prosthesis about 2 months
ago. He is extremely non-compliant, and I have been working hand and hand
with the Physical Therapy staff with this individual. We have been keeping
the leg at PT, because neither PT, Doctor, nor I feel confident yet that
when he takes the leg home he will be compliant with proper care for
himself. The patient is in Kansas and I am fairly confident that once he
takes the leg home with him that he will take off to Arizona to avoid the
remaining winter months in KS. Also, he is scheduled for surgery to have 2
toes amputated in a week due to diabetes complications. I feel, once he has
the leg he is gone to Arizona, and it might be a death sentence to him,
because we all feel he will not seek the proper care for him and he wants to
ignore the situation with his toes. How much power or control do I have in
this situation? Any help is appreciated

Thanks,
