Original post with replies following. Thank you all.
Patient presents as CVA with subluxed shoulder, flaccid elbow, wrist and
fingers (post chemo issues). She has tried all kinds of shoulder slings
from the OT's, and cannot tolerate anything over either shoulder.
She is a retired PT, and is telling me what she wants, and I think I have
seen a prefabricated device like this somewhere in the past.
She basically wants a small LSO that would have a Velcro based front that
she could easily strap her forearm to with a couple straps around the
forearm (she actually wants a gutter splint with Velcro attached to it).
Is there something available like this? I could and probably will make it
myself, but just looking for design features.
---------------------------------
The only thing I can think of is something similar to the Armadillo by New
Options, but even it goes over the shoulder slightly, but can be adjusted.

I have used a support from Ortho Active with good results. Its also easy to
make too.
2500 $24.22 Elastic Shoulder Immobilizer M/F S-XL
I think she simply wants a very light shoulder immobilizer. 1 waist strap
with loop velcro and 1 forearm wrap with hook.
*After that if she will tolerate that a soft strap anterior to humeral head
over the shoulder from front to back that may de-weight the pull of the
subluxation. **any prefab fitted hand orthosis will accept sticky back
velcro. She's been through alot, let her be part of the solution.
I'm afraid that I can only give a vague description of the device that I
fitted in the 1980's. I ordered a device I believe it was made by Steeper
for brachial plexus injuries. After looking on the Internet, the second link
below is the closest orthosis to the one that I fit at that time. The major
difference was it had a lightweight flexible pelvic band that went from the
anterior midline to the posterior midline and a light weight chest band both
with webbing straps. My recollection was that it worked well in stabilizing
the patients arm.

I hope some of these ideas will be helpful. Let me know what you end up
fitting.
Top shelf manufacturing mag sling. Uses magnets instead of velcro.
