Hello Colleagues and Guests,
I've been asked where to find the LCD regarding AFO and KAFO
requirements that is supposed to be published for January 2013.
You can find the article at OP-Repository.org under, Documents, then NGS.
You can also link to the NGS LCD site by going to OP-Repository.org,
then Links, then NGS. There you will find all of the LCD articles for
region B, and my guess is that all of the regions have similar websites.
These proposed rulings are disturbing, harmful to the field of orthotics
and especially the clients affected, and show, once again, that those
who are writing these requirements know very little about O&P, although
they would likely dispute that notion. It is also another indicator of
just how frustrated Medicare is with fraud and abuse in the O&P field. I
feel confident that these radical rulings are a direct result of
creative billings within the LCode system and now everyone is
affected, most importantly the Medicare clients in need of services. As
I have said on more than one occasion in the past, until we garner the
guts to face these issues head-on with Medicare in a collective
manner, all of us will suffer.
