Hello Colleagues and Guests,
I recently wrote about the coming problems with pre-payment audits.
Evidently, it is starting to sink in and worry a lot of folks. I'm attaching
a link to the text of my recent letter to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius
to show that some of us are making an honest attempt to get to the bottom of
these issues. It is also on the oandpsolutions.org website. I wrote to let her
know that I believe an O&P firestorm is truly coming so she won't be
blindsided by the complaints that are about to come from our local
legislators. I hope that others will write, call or visit their federal
representatives, and get involved otherwise with this important issue. I
don't think it is going to go away easily, but I think we can get this
problem changed if we are willing to work on it.
If enough of us complain and act at the local levels, eventually it will
likely be noticed in DC. The cannons have already been fired by Medicare and
it's about time we start shooting back.
If you haven't already, take a look at the oandpsolutions.org website.
The goal of this website is to provide a mechanism for useful information
that relates primarily to O&P policy, compliance, and administrative issues.
If we unite our forces, the information that will be posted on this site
will become increasingly useful for our purpose.
I simply believe that if we put valuable information in a common and easily
accessible location that has a common O&P purpose in mind, it will be useful
for us over time.
Several have written to me regarding the pre-payment issue and have offered
assistance. As I try to explain with each reply, I don't have a silver
bullet and each of us will have to participate in our own available ways,
based upon the problems we have at hand. I know that several of our
organizations are working on some or all of these issues, but let's face it,
with all due respect, what is happening right now with the pre-payment
audits should not be happening, especially in the quantities that are being
issued at one time. So if we as individuals don't get involved at the local
levels, we can't blame anyone but ourselves. Our apathy, including mine, is
not serving us well.
