Hello list,
I recently spoke with Jeff Arnette, about a recent meeting he took part in
with CMS audit leaders regarding pre and post-payment audits. As I
understand it, an AOPA representative was present at the meeting along with
oher well respected O&P leaders.
Jeff has had a part in the building of this board and made a request during
the meeting that CMS work on a Prosthetic K level form similar to the
Diabetic shoe form that we are all used to having primary care physicians
fill out.
This would allow our profession to have a base for the physician to work
from in determining and defining patient ambulation levels.
As I understand it, the O&P advisory board voted unanimously to request
that this documentation be approved by CMS. The board will be working on
this document and will present this to CMS for approval.
My hope is that this will clear up the problem with the primary care
physicians lack of detailed education in O&P and give them a simple
framework to properly assign K levels to there patients and have this
document be a part of both O&P professionals and their own charts.
I have not heard, nor has Jeff Arnette, from any of the other members of
the board regarding any further work towards this document that could be
very helpful in our documentation requirements...does anyone on the list
serve have any information regarding how and who will be working on this
need?
Thanks,
Michael Arnette, BOCPO, LPO
