Hello List,

In the wake of recent confusion from Medicare resulting in numerous audits and general lack of understanding of what is constituted as compliant, I would like to poll the list as to how one would handle a repair I am currently involved in.

I have a patient who is a retired physician, very active and recently a Medicare recipient. He came in requiring a repair to his micro-processor knee. His knee was provided to him prior to being on Medicare so I have no detailed justification in his medical record provided by his physician. Of course I have my records justifying his functional classification and medical necessity but only an Rx from his surgeon.

Should I make him have a face to face visit with his physician, obtain an Rx for the repair and provide a detailed Rx later detailing the repair. I am curious if anyone has encountered this recently? If so, how did you proceed?

Thanks. I will post responses.
