Thanks again to all who responded again showing how valuable of a recourse this list serve is.

Original post:

I have a patient that has a very nice looking Mickey Mouse carbon fiber AFO. It has worked well for her for the past couple of years. She is going to be in a wedding and is looking for options to cover the brace so that it is white preferably but any solid would be fine. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Two layers of a white nylon sock over the AFO should cover the image and not make it to tight to fit into a shoe. You could try one layer of a flesh tone compression hose with a white sock over that also.
Good luck with the layering.

Contact paper like that used for covering kitchen shelving.

A sign shop should be able to cover it with non stick vinyl and shrink it to fit. Kind of like electrical sleeves. It may cost a few bucks and will take a few days but I have covered AFO's before and it worked great

She can wrap it in Vinyl that is used for auto and window graphics. Easy to remove when wedding is over.

opaque panty hose in a color....or just knee high colored Trouser socks...

Have you seen the AFO socks, the socks that you put on the AFO before you donn the orthosis. Does it have trim lines that would allow this type of sock to go over it?

I'd suggest you look for some vinyl sign material. It is super sticky, available in a multitude of colours, and has very good stretch which means it'd easily cover contours. If you look under signs in the yellow pages without doubt you'd be able to buy some of the vinyl for a few bucks. Once the wedding is over, peel it off and your afo is back to normal.

Hi Keith, how about white leather glued over the plastic or aliplast. Leather could be stretched and glue to look really nice, or you could spray paint it white

Check out the afo sock from knitrite. We do not sell many but it would work here sorry no ad just trying to help

Check Knit Rite, They have a sock that goes over the inside and
outside of the AFO. It looks like a piece of glorified stockinette

Contact Fred's Legs. They can provide a Lycra cover standard or custom
sized. My wife just suggested wearing a long gown! Hope this helps. Take
care.

Knitrite have a white AFO liner sock which allows people to wear bare feet in sandals. This would make the AFO white.

Krylon. White semi-gloss. No drips, no runs, no errors! Her husband-to-be can wipe it down with acetone after the wedding. It will be one of his first assignments on his honey-do list, which he will have to get used to! Best wishes to the couple.

A lace print!

I have had several mothers/wives make fabric covers for AFOs over the years. The one I remember the most was making an envelope of terrycloth or double knit to slide over the top of the AFO. It had slots cut in it to access the strap and chafe. She made them of difference colors to match his socks.

The other option would be for you to cover the exterior with strips of adhesive backed white pile Velcro. Once the wedding is over she can peel it off to let Mikey escape.

I think it's Knit Rite, who make white stretchy sock like AFO covers. They slide over the AFO like a sock and Velcro to them self up by the proximal end.

A tall white sock should work just fine for the day. She can take it off at
the end of the day and still have her AFO intact.
