My original question is followed by a summary of the responces. Thanks to
all those who replied.

Hello List, I should know this but does Medicare have any rules about adding

a L5704 Cover to a preparatory prosthesis, either at initial delivery or

later on down the road? Generally, I seldom if ever put a custom cover on a

prep but it looks like this patient will be in this for an extended period

of time and she wants a cover.

Replies:

Most of the replies stated that the Lower Extremity Prosthetics LCD states
that a L5704 is among the list of codes that will be denied as not medically
necessary. There were others who state they routinely put covers on preps
and some who use non custom covers. There were a couple of people who
suggested that a cover may be covered some time later if the prosthesis will
be used as a definitive prosthesis.

Thanks again for your replies.
