Fwd: Coding verification for AFOs

Text:
I've now recieved emails from two of the DME MACS stating that the coding verification requirements for AFOs have been removed. Text from one of those emails is pasted below.
On July 6, 2012 the four Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) posted the revised Local Coverage Determination (LCD) for Ankle-Foot/Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses (Effective Date July 1, 2012). This LCD has removed the requirement for coding verification by the PDAC for L1906, L1930, L1932, L1940, L1960, L1970 and L1971. The Advisory Article titled Coding Verification Reviews for Custom Fabricated Ankle-Foot Orthoses posted to the PDAC website on May 16, 2012 has been removed.

Subject: Coding verification for AFOs
Everyone needs to read this. Looks like we all have to get coding verification for our AFOs under codes L1940, L1960, and L1970.

Quoted from the above link :
Custom fabricated by a supplier: These items are individually fabricated by a supplier from raw materials and are dispensed directly to the patient by the entity that fabricated the orthosis. For coding verification, the supplier must submit written documentation that lists the custom Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AFO) manufacturing processes and all components that will be a part of the base code for that AFO orthosis. The supplier must provide a narrative description of the item to include anatomical reference points, a list of the materials that were used and a description of the custom fabrication process (including photos of the process) used for this type of orthosis. These custom fabricated items must be listed on the PDAC’s DMECS in order to be billed using a custom fabricated code.
