My patient is a 54 year old male who at 5 days old had a transfemoral
amputation due to a malignant tumor. He has been active throughout his years
including swimming at the master’s level. His present limb strength and ROM
is excellent. His limb shape is conical with a taper towards the medial.
When he contracts his musculature his limb changes shape significantly. His
femoral length is 2 ½”, 6 inches of redundant tissue, lateral scar formation
4” long with an invagination in the proximal 1 ½” with a depth of 1/4'”.

Over the years he has worn various styles of devices including his most
resent skin fit suction with Silesian belt. He has done well until recently
as he has lost volume. His chief complaint has been loosing suction when he
would bend over. I’m considering the Otto Bock double wall system. I’d
appreciate any input or comments.
