Hello again everyone. I received seven replies to my query regarding HD components for the patient discribed in my original e-mail (below). Four suggested the Mauch Plus because it is rated to 365 pounds. They also suggested either a Re-Flex, Cetreus, or Freedom Innovations' foot. One suggested the Otto Bock 3R80 knee, another suggested the Endolite KX06 knee, and the other suggested the NKH6 Medi knee. Feed back from some colleagues was negative regarding the Mauch Plus because of quality control issues regarding the SNS unit, although their negative experiences were some years ago. Any feed back regarding these knees would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello everyone. I have a unique case that I would appreciate your suggestions for component selection for a transfemoral endoskeletal prosthesis. Patient is a 51 year old male, 6'2 tall, 302 pounds, and very active. His amputation was due to trauma several years ago when he weighed about 250 pounds. He is a high school coach (football and baseball), likes to go fishing in salt water at the gulf coast, and he ride horses, motorcycles, and bicycles, etc. He lives on acreage where he takes care of his horses. I have not provided any prostheses to him; all of his previous prostheses were provided by another provider. His current prosthesis is several years old, and was provided prior to his weight gain. It utilizes a Model 2100 Total Knee and Axtion foot. He exceeds the weight limitations of this knee, so I am considering alternatives. He stated he also had used a C-leg, loved it for walking, but destroyed it due to his other activities. He states he is not interested in microprocessor knees (too fragile and need to be charged). He wants something that is simple, durable, and easy to maintain given his activities and activity level. He realizes that salt water activities may not be feasible (he may dedicate his current prosthesis to that activity); his other activities are his priority. Any suggestions?
