Question to the list on enlarge prostate issues with an above knee amputee.
The patient is wearing a locking liner, IC flexible inner socket, laminated
frame (no cut outs) but is trimmed about 3/8 distal of the proflex. He has
been wearing the socket for about a year now and is pleased with the fit and
suspension of the socket.
Recently he has seen a urologist for an enlarged prostate and trouble going
to the bathroom. The urologist had him urinate with the prosthetic device
on and afterwards performed an ultrasound; there was some urine still left
in his bladder. The clinic asked him to remove the prosthetic device and
try to urinate again. He was able to evacuate another 400 cc of urine. So
the urologist suggest prosthetic adjustments.
So before I start cutting away on a socket that fits well, I added padding
between the inner and outer sockets to lift the patient a little bit higher
in the socket in hopes of taking pressure on the groin area. (even though
there is not excessive pressure on the adductor longus, ramus or the IT)
One option the patient has is to take off the prosthetic device when he has
to use the bathroom, but this is very frequent throughout the day.
So my question to the list group is has anyone come across this problem and
what are the possible solutions?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
