Dear List!

We're experiencing some problems here in Copenhagen with the prosthesis of
a transtibial amputee and we're hoping the list might share some insight
and suggestions.

The patient is a 65 year old male who was amputated at transtibial level in
late 2010 due to diabetes. His residual limb is of moderate length and he
has been fitted with an Össur seal-in 5x wave liner + carbon fiber socket +
safe foot.

Our primary issue is that his residual limb fluctuates in volume, though
with an overall gradual reduction in progress, which compromises the
seal-in suspension.
We're seeking advice on how to accommodate this in the
socket while ensuring secure suspension until the patient qualifies for a
new socket in about 8 months. Does anyone have experience with seal-in on
patients who fluctate/reduce in volume? The patient is quite happy with the
seal-in suspension system so switching to pin lock is out of the question
at this time.

Thank you for your time!

Best regards,
Lærke Jensen, Copenhagen DK
