A question has come up about the advisability of shock absorption with
AK prostheses.

My thought was that it wasn't useful and may even be counter-productive
with prosthetic knees that
have significant stance flexion, like the Genium and X2, C-leg,
Compact...and perhaps others?.

If the limb was fleshy, I also think it wouldn't be useful. If it was a
bony limb or firm limb, and a knee without stance flexion was used, it
would make sense to me to use shock absorption if the shock absorption
is happening at the right time. Is it the same as a soft heel?

So, I would appreciate feedback from those of you that are more
sophisticated in gait dynamics, and or have experience with putting
shock absorbers on AK pt's.

The one pt I put on shock torque absorber with full confidence, walked
with a swing hydraulic knee and a peg foot.

Thank you,
