Dear
List Serve,

I
was asked to consult on a 16 month old child who has Congenital
Neurofibromatosis and Pseudarthrosis of Tibia and Fibula. The Tibia and Fibula
fractured above the malleolus when the patient was 7 weeks old. She is currently
in a solid ankle AFO with anterior shell. The AFO is not able to control the
lower limb very well and the patient is unable to pull up to stand. I feel the
patient would benefit most from a KAFO to improve tri-planar control and support
to the affected side so the patient would be able to use the contralateral side
to stand.

Have
any of you had a patient with this Dx? If so what type of orthosis did you
design? Do you have any suggestions on the design characteristics of the KAFO to
improve the support and stability of the non-union of the Tibia and Fibula?

Any
and all suggestions / comments are welcome.
Thank
you in advance for your responses.
