We are investigating what the policies are through the private insurance
carriers. The verbage in the contracts is very confusing as to what we are
allowed to collect vs. bill regarding co-insurance. Obviously if we can
collect the co-insurance at the time of delivery, it reduces the chase
afterwards. I understand that each of our contracts are different so you
may not be able to give specifics on each of your contracts.
The general questions are:
1: Do you collect the co-insurance at the time of delivery?
2: Do you know if you are allowed to collect the co-insurance at the
delivery based on your contract?
3: Has anyone had patients complain to the insurance carrier that you have
collected co-insurance. If so, have you been threatened that you may lose
your contract if you collect the co-insurance?
This is specifically for co-insurance, not deductibles.
