Optimus Prosthetics of Dayton, Ohio was contacted by a local church pastor whose church has sponsored their 3rd church community construction mission in Swaziland. They are hoping to find a prosthetic solution in Africa (perhaps South Africa since it neighbors Swaziland). Funds are very limited. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, please send them to Beth Warren at <Email Address Redacted> <mailto:<Email Address Redacted>>. Comments from the Lead Missionary in Swaziland and the local Pastor are below.
Thank you,
-Scott

FROM LEAD MISSIONARY...
Date of amputation was 1/23/2012. 'Volunteer' lost his left hand and wrist in a brutal construction accident. While he voluntarily helped to manufacture cement blocks for the construction of a rural church in Swaziland, his arm was crushed in the hydraulic press of a Hydraform block machine. Volunteer had received basic training on the machine just one week prior. On the first day using the machine, he reached his hand into the hydraulic block press to clean out some clay and dirt that remained from the previous block. While doing so, a young man stepped to the hydraulic levers and in curiosity pulled it. Before Volunteer realized what was happening, his arm was being crushed in the press. He had to reach across and push the lever to lift the hydraulic arm that had nearly severed his arm completely. A surgeon at Good Shepherd Hospital in Siteki, Swaziland performed the amputation. Volunteer has had an extremely positive attitude and outlook since the accident. He is in excellent health. He is a building contractor whereby he employs 5-6 young Swazi men. He also has a desire to someday plant and pastor a church and is currently enrolled part-time in Bible school. He is highly active, organizing and participating in soccer matches and tournaments on a regular basis. He has a wife of 5 years and a son who is 5. He and his wife also care for several orphan children. We are Assembly of God missionaries here in Swaziland, and this individual has become one of my closest national friends. I would greatly like to help him acquire a prosthesis. I believe he desires to have one and would greatly benefit from it. We have limited personal resources, but believe that people would rally around this cause as we try to help.
FROM THE LOCAL PASTOR...
This whole Swaziland ministry is such a work of God. Since our exploratory trip there just under 4 1/2 years ago, we are already on our third church community. We send several teams over each year, and everyone comes back observing It is working...lives are being saved...communities are being changed! So...yes, you read me right, it is near to our (my) hearts. Just let me know the next step...we hope to see this individual fitted with a helpful solution soon. Thanks again!
Thank you,
-Scott
