Hello All,
Thanks to all who have provided their responses which I have posted below. Most people suggested using silicone spray on the transfer pattern or strap to help it transfer - I was trying to avoid this due to toxicity of silicone. There were some other interesting techniques - and I received a call saying that fabric transfer patterns are much more effective at this process and they can be used repeatedly.
I will be trying various processes to see which is best for my purposes! Thanks again to Paul and all the participants in this awesome resource!!
Responses -----------
layer from the bottom-
towel
dacron
transfer
towel
iron.
Try spraying both pieces with Silicone
Spray transfer paper and strap with silicone spray and use an iron. (We use a table top clothes press)
Transfer patterns on dacron strap: Lay strap on cardboard, put transfer paper on top of strap, take a heat gun and go over the paper on high heat, keeping heat gun safe distance from paper, go back and forth with gun, take a cloth and rub the pattern and it will transfer unto the dacron strap. You do the same with velcro.
We use sewease silicone spray on them first
------------------
I use silicone spray first. That seems to work well before ironing
---------------------
The technicians at work just iron it on. No separator, no magic potion ;)
we bought and use a t-shirt press (ricoma heat press) that has been very
successful for us. I hope that helps (bought it on amazon.com).
we just iron them on directly with nothing else, this seems to
work quite well for us
