Hello again and thanks for all the great responses to my posting asking, Are
there currently any companies that provide traveling orthotic and
prosthetic practitioners to O&P facilities with temporary staffing/coverage
needs...similar to that found in the nursing industry?

I should clarify the purpose of my inquiry is to find employment for
myself, rather than searching for staff coverage for any specific facility,
or as a business opportunity to create a company to offer such services to
facilities in need of temporary staffing.

Below is the most informative responses. I took the liberty
to slightly edit/format these replies to make this email a bit more
manageable.

*1. * My name is Jena Baxter. I am a healthcare recruiter specializing in
the
Orthotic & Prosthetic Industry. We help private practices and manufacturers
with their permanent clinician and professional needs. However, we've
helped several of our clients with short term needs. I would be happy to
discuss our services with you. Whether you may be looking to do contract
work yourself or if you need supplemental staff at your practice. I have
attached my employee bio for your review. Have a great day!

Thank you,
Jena Baxter

*2.** * I have been working as a traveling CPO since July. There is Only
one O&P Recruiter that I know of. She landed only one of the positions for
me. The O&P company she lands you with pays them a monthly fee. Below is
her contact info.

Hanger also has the need for temporary clinicians sometimes. Below is their

What I have found to be most successful is simply to E Mail companies that
are advertising in the O&P Edge and the O&P Business News. If they are
running an ad for a CO they probably need you today. I offer 2 months of
service as a contract employee. I quote a per diem rate and coverage of
various expenses for lodging (extended care) and meals, an automobile or
mileage if I use my own car for business travel, a cell phone if there is
an on call schedule and an extra fee if I am solely on call for an entire
weekend. You pay your own medical insurance and taxes. You will receive a
1099 MISC at the end of the year.

Try the magazine online ads as well. States with licensure are
problematic.
I have a Contract Employee temporary employment contract they provided by
an employer. You or your future employer may want to use one, as well.

*3. *...what would the economic value be to the facility, i.e. fair
reimbursement to the *locum tenens* practitioner, would this be providing
full care or just overseeing non certified/licensed staff, what are the
liability and hospital privileging issues, among other things.

Hanger or one of the regional companies can move staff around for coverage,
but a single practice can't. That makes it hard to take a break for
vacation or could be devastating for a major illness. This may be a role
for more senior practitioners like myself that have stopped their clinical
practice.

I think that this would be a good discussion here on the list server.
Maybe some of the physicians and other allied health personnel would have
some helpful input.

*5.* ...Last I heard subcontracting was not allowed by Medicare.

Thanks again to those that have provided input toward this question.
