Are some of your contracts paying you, just slightly above your Central Fab
costs? In this tumultuous economic downturn, not just in our economy in
general, but the lack of reimbursement is diminishing by third-party payers
and making it more difficult for me to understand how many Central Fab
manufacturers are continuing to increase their prices. I have done a recent
analysis on some of our more complicated braces. It seems as though I am
paying the central fabricator more or equal to the amount of money the third
party payor is reimbursing.
The O&P facilities seem to be bearing the full downturn in revenue
reimbursement. While many of the central fabricators are raising their
prices. Now I know, that I have the option to do my own fabrication, and
save that cost. Some of the major fabricators are taking much longer to get
your prosthetics and orthotics, and costing a lot more. Bilateral KAFO's are
costing right about $2000. I can remember getting reimbursed on the retail
side $300-$400 for KAFOs.
Are the prices getting to high or is it that I've just been around too long,
and have become too cheap to think that the fabricator should split 50-50
with the facility?
