Good morning List members!
A new article has been added to the Journal Club's discussion board on the Gait Society's website. Our scientific liason, Shane Wurdeman, has posted a link to the article as well as a brief summary. Check it out! The results are interesting and the limitations they experienced were well documented.
Gard SA, Su PF, Lipschutz RD, Hansen AH. (2001) Effect of prosthetic ankle units on roll-over shape characteristics during walking in persons with bilateral transtibial amputations. 48(9):1037-1048.
Intro to Shane's summary:
This study is a continuation of the line of work that Dr. Hansen has pursued with their roll-over shape. The roll-over shape is the functional radius formed by the foot when walking (approximately 30% of the leg length for non-amputees). In this particular study, Gard et al. are determining the effects of an ankle unit on the roll-over shape. Intuitively, it is logical that an ankle unit would affect the tibial progression, which would then affect the roll-over shape.
