Good evening List!
Shane Wurdeman, scientific liason for the Academy's Gait Society, has posted the next article addition to the Journal Club discussion board. It's an easy read that involves a challenge most amputees and prosthetists face regularly - suspension of a prosthesis on a transtibial limb. Check it out!
Transtibial prosthetic socket pistoning: Static evaluation of Seal-In® X5 and Dermo® Liner using motion analysis system
Gholizadeh, H., Abu Osman, N.A., Kamyab, M., Eshragi, A., Wan Abas, W.A.B., Azam, M.N. (2011) Transtibial prosthetic socket pistoning: Static evaluation of Seal-In X5 and Dermo Liner using motion analysis system. Clinical Biomechanics. (In Press)
Shane posted a summary along with multiple questions that he was left with after reading the article.
In this article, the authors are comparing pistoning of the transtibial prosthesis while wearing two different types of liners (Seal In X5 and Dermo Liner). The authors utilize a motion capture system (Vicon) to measure the pistoning by tracking the motion of reflective markers on the surface of the liners inside a socket.
