Who has an experience with a PFFD patient that they would like to share? If it
opposes, supports, or relates to the following abstract that would be even
better but is not necessary. I am presenting in Vegas in September and I would
love to hear from your experience. The source will of course be given to any
contributions.
PFFD - Go Big or Go Home
Four people with PFFD are presented in this multi-facility case series. These
patients and their clinical presentations are utilized to demonstrate the need
to ‘go big’ in the medial wall or ischial seat area in order to increase control
and reduce the varus moment at the hip and reduce lateral gapping. It is
postulated that the unique anatomy of these PFFD patients creates the need to
have a socket shape that provides a medial wall and medial posterior corner that
are drastically larger than typically found in above knee socket designs. While
many prosthetists anecdotally recognize these anatomical differences,
radiographic findings further support and emphasize the substantial need for
unique PFFD socket design. This multi-facility case series presentation invites
for further cases to combine for future studies.
