Listed below are the responses concerning Question Proposed to group about
tracking backshop progress of a job. OPIE was the most common response and those
who mentioned OPIE were very pleased with its ease and efficiency it adds.  I
also played a little with office live and using a live excel spreadsheet that
looks like it has potential.
Responses:
We are currently implementing an online service for our Central Fab, Advanced
O&P Solutions. The system is called Job Boss and it will allow our Customers to
track devices, add notes to the process if changes are needed, stop processes
due to death of pt or non funding. You will also be emailed when project is
received and sent along with tracking numbers. I think we will be doing a
Product Presentation at AOPA. Please call me if you have any questions.

OPIE fab tracking allows you to track a device at any stage of the process
and has an infinite number of descriptors to suit the individual needs of
your facility.

We wrote our own database for work orders and scheduling in
ACCESS(Microsoft)
OPIE Software!

We used a simple excell spreadsheet that has sections for modification, plastic,
metal, leather sections. Each person has a copy of the list on their bench. At
the end of the day they are collected and placed on the spreadsheet. This
program is kept on the server so that the practioners can see what the progress
is at. We set a specific time frame on the job. Such as when the plastic is
pulled it is to be in the leather room by the next day and so on. This typr of
list is also handy for tracking the average time each type of device takes to
fabricate. Very simple
With in-house fab, OPIE has very good tracking of work in fabrication...step
by step and who is responsible for completing the current step.
We use a spread sheet format that is updated each morning and afternoon
and sent to the office managers/practitioners each morning.  The fab
shop supervisor updates the form and also uses it to log those orders on
hold for either insurance or vendor back orders.  Works pretty well for
us.
