Hello List Serve,
For the New England Area, I've been told by our billing specialist some changes
that have taken place as of Jan 1, 2011. I called Medicare myself and getting a
clear yes or no is near impossible. So, here is my question:
Does a diabetic patient with an Rx in hand (from an FNP, PA, Podiatrist, etc)
for a pair of shoes have to see (face to face) the MD or DO about their
diabeties within the past 6 months? The question is about seeing the MD or DO
face to face (not the frequency of being seen). I've always simply gone by any
of the above seeing the pt within 6 months but reading the Medicare info about
it, it just doesn't seem clear because the physician is always defined as the
MD or DO. Here's the link:

Thank you for any clarification
