Recently saw a 53 yo female with CP and diabetes who is deaf and non-verbal.
She wears bilateral double upright AFOs after failing with plastic some time
ago. She has lost about 80 lbs since her last AFOs were made and needs
replacements. My question is whether to bill Medicare for L3224 (Shoes
attached to brace) or A5500 (diabetic shoes). I plan on providing diabetic
inserts for the shoes regardless of how I bill the shoes. Also, the rx is
from her podiatrist. Do the inserts require an order from her doctor
treating her diabetes?
