Happy New Year.
We are currently working with a very active gentleman with a
congenital trans-femoral amputation who wishes to utilize a
microprocessor knee unit as well as a sport type prosthesis. My questions
to the list are:
Is there any peer reviewed literature to support the medical necessity
for provision of two prostheses, one for daily use and another for
sport or special activities?
And.. Has anyone been successful in having a US third party payer
(other than DOD) provide 2 separate prostheses at the same time?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
