Thanks to every that took the time to respond, below is my original post and responses. Darrel Templeton CODear List, I have a 30 yo patient who dislocated her right shoulder anteriorly 3 years ago at the end of a difficult pregnancy. Since then she estimates that she has dislocated 50 times, and is able to reduce by herself. She does not want to have surgery due to previous negative experiences, and is working with a PT who referred her to us for a brace. The patient works for a grocery chain and must stock shelves as part of her duties. She can raise her arm safely to about 120 degrees with no load, but if she is lifting something then she is in danger of dislocating when she exceeds 90 degrees. Any suggestions for an orthosis to help this patient?I will post responses, thanks in advance for your help.
I liked to use the Armadillo shoulder stabilizer. It works great for active individuals with chronic subluxations. I used it often on my athletes. It is fairly easy to don and not real bulky.I think the Omiotrain is a good device if minor limitation is all that isnecessary. If a more maximal control is desired try the Max shoulderorthosis, which was formerly called the SAWA.The only device that I am aware of for chronic dislocations is the 'Duke Wyre Shoulder Vest from C.D. Dennison of Baltimore, Maryland. Here's the link.. <URL Redacted> Dennison <URL Redacted> Less expensive.... (looks to be the same device)
You could consider the Sully Shoulder Stabilizer:Purchasing and Sizing <URL Redacted> Instructions http://supports4less.com/sully/sully_shoulder_application.htm
