The CMS has released additional guidance related to the upcoming 2011 HCPCS
changes. The following “A” code is being added to the code set on January 1,
2011:
A4566 - Shoulder sling or vest design, abduction restrainer, with or without
swathe control, prefabricated, includes fitting and adjustment
This non-covered “A” code is intended to replace “L” codes L3660, L3670, and
L3675. A copy of the 2011 changes is attached for your reference and the
cross-walk information begins on page 6. The BREG products you are most familiar
with include:
This means that as of January 1st these products will no longer be reimbursed by
Medicare. As you know, this also means that other payers are more than likely
going to adopt similar guidelines and the products will become cash items in the
near future.
The CMS just released the 2011 HCPCS code changes. According the release, the
following “L” codes are among the codes being deleted on December 31, 2010:
L3660 SHOULDER ORTHOSIS, FIGURE OF EIGHT DESIGN ABDUCTION RESTRAINER, CANVAS AND
WEBBING, PREFABRICATED, INLCUDES FITTING AND ADJUSTMENT
L3670 SHOULDER ORTHOSIS, ACROMIO/CLAVICULAR (CANVAS AND WEBBING TYPE),
PREFABRICATED, INLCUDES FITTING AND ADJUSTMENT
L3672 SHOULDER ORTHOSIS, ABDUCTION POSITIONING (AIRPLANE DESIGN), THORACIC
COMPONENT AND SUPPORT BAR, WITHOUT JOINTS, MAY INCLUDE SOFT INTERFACE, STRAPS,
CUSTOM FABRICATED, INCLUDES FITTING AND ADJUSTMENT
L3673 SHOULDER ORTHOSIS, ABDUCTION POSITIONING (AIRPLANE DESIGN), THORACIC
COMPONENT AND SUPPORT BAR, INCLUDES NONTORSION JOINT/TURNBUCKLE, MAY INLCUDE
SOFT INTERFACE, STRAPS, CUSTOM FABRICATED, INCLUDES FITTING AND ADJUSTMENT
L3675 SHOULDER ORTHOSIS, VEST TYPE ABDUCTION RESTRAINER, CANVAS WEBBING TYPE OR
EQUAL, PREFABRICATED, INLCUDES FITTING AND ADJUSTMENT
With that said, the descriptor of L3677 is being changed from:
Shoulder orthosis, hard plastic, shoulder stabilizer, prefabricated, includes
fitting and adjustment
to
Shoulder orthosis, shoulder joint design, without joints, may include soft
interface, straps, prefabricated, includes fitting and adjustment
