Dear Colleagues:
A friend of mine is an experienced carpenter and maintenance man. I've hired
him for a real estate investment business of mine and have found him to be
multi-talented and to do careful and good work. But in an economy where no
one is constructing houses and few are fixing them, a guy who is good at
building and repairing houses has trouble finding employment.
I think that my friend might make an excellent prosthetic and orthotic
technician, and I have therefore recommended that course of action to him. I
walked the exhibit floor with him at the recent Orlando AOPA show and he is
very excited about the prospect. He has asked me where he can get reading
materials for an initial study of prosthetic fabrication.
Therefore, I am interested in the following:
1. Websites related to prosthetic (primarily, but also orthotic)
technical things, such as techniques, components, etc. (I think there is O&P
tech listserv, but I can't find it.)
2. Publications, including textbooks, especially primers, that might
help a beginner.
3. Schools or programs for teaching prosthetic fabrication skills that
are in or near Florida.
Thanks, in advance, for your information and advice.
Regards.
