Hi All.
I have an interesting situation that I hope I can describe. My patient
is a twenty-something male who has congenital bilateral fib. hemimelia.
He has been walking on exoskeletal prostheses with pelite liners, sleeve
suspension, and FlexWalk II feet since 2003. He wanted to try some newer
technology and we agreed to trial the Ossur Ceterus LP feet. He has been
wearing them for about a month and has since developed a clicking in his
hip joint on the left side. At first I thought it was part of the
prosthesis that was clicking somewhere but then we discovered it was
actually his hip. I tried changing the alignment in various subtle ways
and I played with the torque slightly in both directions to see if his
hip would like it better. No change.. When he dons his old exo
prostheses the clicking stops... Given that you all cannot see this
person and his alignment, I see the difficulty in being able to
appropriately offer advice but is there any reason you might know of
that would be causing this clicking? He really likes the feel of the new
feet and says they are much easier to walk in but he's worried about the
potential for long term degradation of his hip joints. Rightly so. Are
these feet actually too dynamic? He does find them much more so than the
Flex Walk II. What are your thoughts?
Thank you so much!
