My original question was:
Can anyone tell me if Medicare applies the five year useful
lifetime to control cables for body powered prostheses?
Replies follow
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In my 35+ years of providing ULP services, I have never had a problem
with Medicare limiting Bowden Cable System replacements when needed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The useful lifetime rules are for the prosthesis as a whole, the cables,
harness straps etc. can be billed for as repair /replacement.
The five year rule is for the replacement of the prosthesis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No. You should be able to replace them as needed with an RP modifier.
Each replacement must carry a 90 day warranty though.

End of replies.
Thank you for your responses. We do very little UE prosthetic work
and I got a little nervous when I reviewed the descriptions of the RA
and RB modifiers that replaced the RP modifier.
