Hi folks;
I'm a prosthetist, but not an orthotist. I'm adopting three children out of
foster care, brothers and sisters. The oldest is a 9 year old boy who has
hemihyperplasia / Hemihypertrophy - one side of his body grows faster than
the other.
He isn't in our home yet, but will be soon, and we will be taking him to a
pediatrician, and from there a geneticis and a pediatric orthopedic
specialist. In the meantime, I've done some research (on the internet), and
found that among other things, bracing or shoe ortho shoes built up
to accommodate the shorter leg to prevent development of scoliosis will be
necessary.
In the meantime, I wondered if any of you have had any experience with
treating patients with this isssue, and had any advice to offer.
Thanks!
