Good morning List-serve,
Thank you for all the interest in the myoelectric hands I have for
donation. I have been overwhelmed with requests and am sorry that I
could not help each and every one of you. I have already shipped two of
the hands to specific facilities who have amputees that need the hands
right now. I am waiting for information on several other individuals who
want the hands so the other two hands are already committed. The
amputees don't have insurance coverage or have significant financial
obligations and are in dire need of the hands. As we all know what once
was a covered service by most insurance companies is now becoming a
thing of the past. It saddens me to know how much our field is changing
in relation to what we should be able to provide our patients and what
we actually are allowed to provide. While I am not surprised by the
number of requests I received I am amazed at how many people are in
desperate need of care but can't get coverage.
My how our field has changed and not for the better when it comes to the
freedom we used to have at providing our patients with what they needed
and not what the insurance company will allow :-(.
Sincerely,
Rick Stapleton, CPO
