Good day all!
I haven't ever suggested using a suction socket on a new transfemoral
amputee. But, I (finally) have a very fit, intelligent patient with a
perfect residual limb (ie., no scars or invaginations and great length)
and am wondering if, with the introduction of the Seal-In liners, if
many of you are using these for their preparatory sockets? Is it a
reasonable option for someone who still may atrophy quite a bit in the
first year of use? Can I get by with sock usage in the upper 2/3rds of
the socket if need be while he shrinks? I have spoken to some clinicians
who put everyone in a suction socket, new or mature and others who say
it's a waste of time and money while they are shrinking.This patient of
mine is a surgeon and will need to be standing for hours as well. What
are your thoughts?
