Thank you who responded, and to Paul for keeping this very helpful tool. We continue to look at nitty gritty issues - pulling wire to increase power etc, but this has been very helpful. Don

I work in a small off site two days a week. The machine room is about 9x 10 with a Trautman and Enco 2 hp dust collector. No outside ventilation is present, and sounds like from the plant manager, not possible. I have been looking at a variety of systems and ended up coming back to the Torit VS 550 or VS 1200. In the OANDP-List archive there are a couple of notes but I was hoping to get a bit more input from the current list.
> How well do they collect dust? Is the Hepa filter worth the 1K? Will it actually be better then the Enco?
> If you are in the Chicago area and would not mind a visit I would appreciate an on site visit.
> Thank you all very much in advance. Responses will be posted.

Dear Don: We installed a system about 20 years ago. It is still working well. We do periodic changing of the filtration bags and have a regular schedule of cleaning out the collector. The key is effective intake hoods and hoses. We have been pleased. I think the design is more important then the hardware name. Air handling capibility and return air flow are also important. Now you have exhausted my knowledge on dust control systems. I hope this has helped.
--------------we use torrits in all our offices and they are great. since it is a confined
space with no ventilation go with the hepa
---------
Don, I own a Torit Vibra-Shake 3000 and did a substantial bit of research before purchasing. It does an excellent job and I highly recommend it! I think I can cut to the chase on most all of your questions and more. I would be happy to get you up to speed. This would include where to buy alternative inexpensive replacement cartridge filters for less than $200.00

Don,
I had a small machine room with no outside ventilation. It was on the 10th
floor of a 16 floor medical office building, so dust, noise and odor were
major concerns. I had a Trautman, drill press, band saw, smallish Torit (I
think cabinet model 64) with muffler. All were mounted on anti-vibration
mats. I had an overhead Grizzly air filter that I ran during office hours. I
had no complaints from the building management or any of my neighbors. I
also had a vertical file cabinet in the room where I stored Prosthetics
socks, sheaths shrinkers, sleeves, etc. and never had dust issues. Have you
checked to see what OSHA recommends or requires?
------------
This might work for you.Get yourself a Rainbow Vacuum and hook it to the hose on your trautman. It will reduce dust and not get sent back into the air and when finished you can use to do the floor also.I like to think outside the O&P machine/tools we need box..
