Dear List,
I have case that I would really appreciate your input on. What knee unit
you would recommend for a client who is 48 years old, 6'3 and 305 lbs. He
is a father of two younger children and off work on disability from
teaching. He has a Left AKA (good mid length and soft tissue coverage, no
adhesions or invaginations or scars) and is struggling to maintain knee
stability. He has 0-10 degrees hip flexion contracture but has weak gluts.
He was not up and walking for about 6 years before his AKA due to repeated
knee surgeries. I currently have him set up on a Black Max frame with a
Mauch SNS and a Freedom Inn. Sierra foot. We are currently transitioning in
to a suction socket.
He is seeing a physiotherapist and is working on strengthening his hips,
unfortunately, the best exercise is walking and he doesn't feel confident in
his knee. I may have to realign the socket to reflect more hip flexion but I
was hoping he would be able to overcome 10 deg. by now! Also he stretches
out to 0 degrees.
Aside from the C-leg what other knees would you recommend?
I would love to hear what you think.
TIA,
Kristin
