Hello O&P Community:
I'm writing on behalf of the NEBCO Foundation a non-profit group of
practitioners providing prosthetic care in Haiti. We recently returned
to the states after 5 days on the ground in Port au Prince and have
taken 6 T/T casts and 4 T/F measurements with two different field
hospitals. We are currently fabricating temporary PP sockets with
endo-skeletal components with plans to transition to the ICRC system
when limb maturation occurs. We are building the prostheses in the
states currently but the goal is to move towards Haitian fabrication
when materials and equipment are available in country.
I know many of you have held component drives and have sent to other
organizations. As we are putting together these ten limbs and know many
more will be coming through the pipeline in the near future, I want to
put a request out to the O&P community for components and feet. Pylons,
grace plates, tube clamps, and any type of feet (brown would be
preferable). We have plastic and foam at this point but would be happy
to have some in the future. We are striving to make this a long term
commitment to the Haitian people and are proud of the work we are doing
and the affiliations we have made in and surrounding Port au Prince. Any
help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me directly
as I was part of the team that recently returned.
Thank you,
Chris
