I have a 34 year old female patient with a hemangioma on the bottom of her
left foot. She presented for a custom foot orthosis to reduce the pressure
off of her hemangioma on the left foot. Surgery is out of the question for
her so she wants something to help reduce pain/pressure.
I made a custom pair of FOs with a silver lined neoprene top material and
she continues to have excessive sweating on her left foot. She states she
has had excessive sweating prior to the FOs, but it increases when she wears
the FOs. It is very difficult to create an FO with a relief in such a large
area (diameter ~ 3) that is located in her midfoot. If I unload the
midfoot then she states there is too much pressure proximal or lateral to
the hemangioma.
To date, she states she has tried everything to relieve the excessive
sweating and is not interested in botox as an option. She states the only
thing so far that works for her is hypnosis. I am looking for any design
and/or material suggestions for this patient to help reduce pressure and
prevent the increase in excessive sweating.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
