Thanks for all the responses. As I suspected, it is not a commercially available item, and seems to be more of a dressing applied by nurses and others some time ago for holding dressings in place made out of linen strips.

Hi All,
Longshot here, but I got a request from a person today for a Scultetus Binder that his Dr. recommended following his research on what he should have. As far as I can tell, internet research shows this to be a very old style binder with multiple straps for abdominal support, originally used for post mastectomy support.
Is this just an old device, or has someone come up with something modern by the same name/design?
Thanks

No, I've not heard of that but have you heard of a Golthwaite? We used to make those
Abdominal binder w/ Velcro is better since safety pins are sharp
When I was in hospitalman training in the Navy that was one of the bindings we learned that was used in Navy hospitals.
Based on discription in 'Orthotics Etcetera' this sounds like a modern day hoke type corset. The Scutetus bandage or binder was from the early 1600's
This is an old device. Sometimes also called a many tailed binder. Back when I used them I was working as am LPN, not an orthotist. This was an item we would get from the hospital's central supply, not an outside supplier. I cannot imagine how any individual could apply one of these on themselves. We used them to hold large surgical dressings in place on the abdomen.
That's odd. I got a request for one also. I called and asked the physician's nurse assistant and she said he orders them all the time. I described the device you found on-line to her and she said no, it's just an elastic binder that goes around the chest. So I took a 9 three strap abdominal binder and cut the strings attaching each of the 3 elastic straps except for the very back section which I left about 3 wide and running perpendicular to the straps. Best alternative I could come up with on short notice
