The roll out of PECOS is going to be very detrimental to our organizations. I called the External User Services (EUS) support line and was on hold for 2 hours one day without getting assistance and then today for 1hr and 45 minutes.
I was under the understanding that if you had a NPPES user name and password you didnt have to obtain a username and password for the PECOS. That is incorrect! You need to obtain one from the PECOS as well, the only key issues is to obtain a PECOS user name and password you are required to be enrolled and current wit the NPPES.
I was informed today that we all will have to enroll again to some degree even as O&P facilities with the PECOS , at this point it is to no advantage for a O&P facility to have a user name and password for them (YET). They did state that in the future this will be the direction that claims will be submitted, however I have heard nothing on this from anywhere other than this customer service line.
I was hoping that access to the PECOS system would enable us to look up the Doctors who have finished their enrollment with Medicare and eliminate our office from calling our referring physicians and telling them they need to get the 855 application completed for PECOS or our reimbursement will be at a HAULT.
Without this being done prior to Jan 2010 any Physician that has not completed this process and our facility continues to see and bill for these patients with their NPI, our claims will be denied.
I am sure, as for everyone else, you are getting the Notices now for the providing / ordering physicians in your general reports. We are using those notices that we are receiving from CEDI in our General reports to creat our list of non enrolled Referring Physicians so we may notify them immediatley.
Also, once you as a company enroll, you are then ask to provide a copy of your IRS CP575 letter and mail to the EUS company in San Antonio. So I guess the NPI, set up and all the documentation that we send to the National Suppliers Clearinghouse cannot be transferred by them, they are now requiring each facility to resubmit a copy, and do this for them.
I hope this helps eliminate someone sitting on the phone for HOURS.
