Dear List,
I've had a request for information on the different types of Orthotic
treatments used for Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type 1. I am aware that this
condition effects the entire skeletal system and am only looking for
treatment relating to the lower extremities. I only have the following
limited information on the patient in question.
13 year old male with Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type 1, who has not had any
lower extremity breaks of consequence. Has some varus deformity from the
tibia's driving distally. Currently he is wearing bilateral Richie style
braces, which were provided by his DPM. They have been functioning properly
but are being outgrown.
What type of AFO's have other practitioners had success with. Would PTB
AFO's help de-weight the ankle/foot and prevent further deformity or would
placing the weight into the patella tendon area create a whole other issue?
Any information on the treatment and outcomes you have had would be very
helpful.
Thank you,
Lee Engel, CO
